Male CounsellorHiTalent Recruitment is seeking an experienced Male Counsellor Advocate to join a highly regarded organisation in Canberra.
This is an opportunity to work within a respected, values-driven organisation delivering critical support to individuals impacted by sexual violence. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing trauma-informed counselling, advocacy, and crisis support within a feminist framework.
As a Male Counsellor Advocate, you will deliver high-quality therapeutic services, support individuals navigating complex systems, and contribute to community education and sector collaboration.
Key Details
- Full-time fixed-term contract (12 months, with potential extension or permanency)
- MEA Award Grade 5.1
- Based in Canberra
- Male-identified applicants only (requirement of the role)
- Participation in crisis response and callout services required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide trauma-informed counselling, advocacy, and crisis support
- Deliver information, referrals, and case management support
- Participate in crisis response, including callouts where required
- Develop, implement, and monitor case plans
- Support individuals navigating legal and administrative systems
- Prepare reports including court documentation and advocacy reports
- Represent the organisation in meetings, forums, and community education activities
- Contribute to training development and delivery for stakeholders
- Maintain accurate client records and service data
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders
About You
- Qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience supporting individuals impacted by sexual violence or trauma
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed and feminist practice frameworks
- Experience in counselling, advocacy, and crisis response
- Excellent communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage a caseload independently and within a team environment
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Commitment to professional development and clinical supervision
Requirements
- Right to work in Australia
- Ability to participate in crisis and after-hours response
- Strong computer literacy (case management systems, reporting tools, Microsoft Office)
Desirable
- Experience within advocacy or community service organisations
- Knowledge of the ACT community services sector
- Experience delivering training or facilitating group work
