HiTalent Recruitment is partnering with an established Aboriginal community-controlled organisation to recruit an experienced Aboriginal Caseworker based in Waterloo.
This is a highly relationship-focused position supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and their families to understand and navigate the aged care system, including My Aged Care, assessments, support plans, service providers and care entitlements.
Working through a culturally safe and trauma-informed approach, you will advocate for Elders and ensure their individual, family and cultural needs remain at the centre of their care.

About the Role
As an Aboriginal Caseworker, you will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders to access appropriate aged care services while helping reduce the complexity and confusion of navigating the aged care system.
You will work closely with Elders and their families before, during and after assessments, helping them understand available services, their entitlements and the pathways available to them.
You will liaise with aged care assessors and service providers, advocate for culturally appropriate care and ensure Elders and their families feel informed and supported throughout the process.
The role is underpinned by cultural safety and trauma-informed practice.
Key Responsibilities
Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and their families
Assist clients with My Aged Care registration and service navigation
Provide pre-assessment support and prepare clients for assessments
Participate in assessment interviews where required
Work with assessors to develop and review appropriate support plans
Help Elders and families identify suitable aged care providers
Explain service agreements, care arrangements and associated costs
Advocate for clients' care, cultural and individual needs
Address concerns with service providers where required
Connect clients with relevant health, aged care and community services
Support families in understanding and navigating care options
Provide ongoing case management, advocacy and practical support
Maintain accurate client records, data and reporting
What We're Looking For
Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities
Experience in case management, aged care, Aboriginal services, community services, health or a related area
Strong ability to build trust and relationships with Elders, families and community
Understanding of culturally safe and trauma-informed practice
Knowledge of My Aged Care and aged care pathways is highly regarded
Strong advocacy and service-navigation skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate initiative
Strong community connections and stakeholder engagement skills
Good record management and reporting capability
Ability to meet relevant employment screening and compliance requirements
Who Would Suit This Role?
You may currently be working as an Aboriginal Caseworker, Aboriginal Community Worker, Elder Care Connector, Care Finder, Aged Care Caseworker, Aboriginal Health Worker, Community Engagement Worker or Support Coordinator.
You will understand that supporting Elders is about more than navigating services. It is about trust, cultural safety, advocacy, connection and ensuring Elders have a genuine voice in decisions about their care.
