Counsellor Advocate
Full-Time or Part-Time (Minimum 2 days per week) | Fixed Term (12 months) | Canberra

HiTalent Recruitment is partnering with a respected, values-driven community organisation to recruit an experienced Counsellor Advocate in Canberra. This is a full-time or part-time (minimum 2 days per week), fixed-term opportunity for 12 months, with potential for extension.

About the Role:

As a Counsellor Advocate, you will join a dedicated, trauma-informed team providing counselling, advocacy, and crisis response to adults, children, and young people impacted by sexual violence.

This role blends therapeutic support with practical advocacy, working within a strong feminist, survivor-centred framework. You will support clients through recovery, crisis intervention, and complex systems, including legal and justice pathways.

You will also contribute to community education initiatives and represent the organisation in relevant professional forums.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver face-to-face, trauma-informed counselling and advocacy

  • Provide crisis support, including participation in on-call and call-out services (with training)

  • Support clients navigating legal, medical, and administrative systems

  • Develop and manage client case plans

  • Prepare professional reports and maintain accurate documentation

  • Contribute to community education, training, and sector engagement activities

  • Work within a strong ethical, feminist, and survivor-centred framework

What We’re Looking For:

  • Qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or a related discipline

  • Experience supporting people impacted by sexual or interpersonal violence

  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed and feminist practice

  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills

  • Ability to manage a caseload and work both independently and collaboratively

  • Eligibility to work in Australia

Desirable:

  • Experience in advocacy or community services

  • Knowledge of the ACT community services sector
